Canadian second-crop sire Danish Dynaformer was represented by his first black-type stakes winner Sept. 24 when his daughter War Painter rallied to take the CA$100,000 Victorian Queen Stakes at Woodbine with authority.
War Painter, a 2-year-old filly trained by Kevin Attard, also broke her maiden in the process of securing her first stakes victory. She was second by a head in her July 29 debut at Woodbine before running third in another maiden special weight contest a month later. Let go at 5-1 odds in the Victorian Queen, War Painter was last of five early before closing four-wide around the far turn and surging past rivals late to score by one length under the wire.
Ridden by Patrick Husbands, the pair clocked 1:21.70 for the seven furlongs over the turf. War Painter was bred in Ontario by Charles Fipke. She is the second winner produced from the Tale of Ekati mare Morning Tale. The filly was sold to current owner Canuck Racing Club for $30,000 at the 2022 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Yearling Sale.
