Patiently ridden by Flavien Prat, Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman’s Gaming rallied from off the pace set by stablemate Getaway Car to win Sunday’s Grade 1, $301,000 Del Mar Futurity on the San Diego County seaside track’s closing day of the 2024 summer horse racing meet. The winner is trained by Bob Baffert, who sent out three of the race’s seven starters in quest of his 18th victory in the Futurity and fourth in a row. The 2-year-old colt gave his sire, Baffert-trained 2018 Del Mar Futurity winner Game Winner, his first added-money winner from his first crop of foals. This was the third Futurity win and second in a row for Prat, a native of France who had been the West Coast’s leading rider until he decided to move his tack to New York in 2022.
