Baoma Corp’s Tenma punched her ticket to the Kentucky Oaks with a 2 ¼-length win in the Grade 2 Santa Anita Oaks at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif. on Saturday. Trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by Juan Hernandez, Tenma settled just off the pace early as Silent Law and No Bad Beats battled for the lead. Vodka With a Twist was on the rail behind the front runners, while Madame Secretary sat at the back. As the field entered the turn, No Bad Beats began to fade allowing Vodka With a Twist to take second, while Tenma moved up wide in third. Turning into the stretch, Tenma began to apply pressure, eventually wearing down Silent Law to finish the mile and a sixteenth on a fast main track in 1:46.13.
Tenma improved her record to five wins in six starts for earnings of $549,000, with her only loss coming in the G2 Oak Leaf at Santa Anita last year. The Nyquist filly was bred in Kentucky by Bobby Flay Thoroughbreds, out of the unraced Tapit mare Amagansett. Tenma was a $850,000 purchase at the OBS April sale of 2-year-olds in training.
