George Krikorian’s Grade 1 winner War Like Goddess lived up to her status as even-money favorite in the $250,000 Robert G. Dick Memorial (G3) Sunday at Delaware Park, cruising from next to last to a one-length triumph. With Junior Alvarado riding for for trainer Bill Mott, the 7-year-old English Channel mare rallied from four deep into upper stretch, overtaking Chop Chop, who pressed the early pace and snatched in early in the lane but could not fend off the winner.
War Like Goddess came into Sunday’s race off a third in the New York Stakes (G1) June 7, her first start of 2024 following her ninth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1) last November. She improved her overall record to 12-2-3 from 20 starts and increased her lifetime bankroll to $2,775,184 with the $150,000 winner’s share of the purse.
