Bloodstock agent Donato Lanni went to work early during the March 16 opening session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales March 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale purchasing two horses on behalf of the Three Amigos partnership for six figures each. The first to fall Lanni’s way was Hip 40, a chestnut filly by Lane’s End stallion Tonalist purchased for $300,000. “She’s the first Tonalist that I’ve bought,” said Lanni. “She did everything that she was asked to do.”
Also on Three Amigos’ list was Hip 67, a colt by Spendthrift Farm stallion Lord Nelson purchased by Three Amigos for $385,000. “He was just a really cool horse – a beautiful horse,” said Lanni. “I hate to say they have to tick all the boxes because there are more and more boxes each year and it’s hard to do that. Things are just becoming a lot more competitive and the good horses separate themselves. It’s really hard to find and to buy those good horses.”
